The last story ends in Lima where we made it to the workshop after a bitter fight with the sick Tiger. While the cat is in treatment now, we welcome our friend Alex from Germany who is visiting us. Before Alex arrived, we asked him, of course, what he would like to see and experience in Peru. But Alex is a very adaptable and uncomplicated travelmate: “I will do anything you are normally also doing”, he just said.
“Dear God punishes the small sins instantly”, is a German saying my mom has told me often during my childhood. And even if I don’t want to accredit too much truth to this saying, we had to learn quite fast this time what happens if you don’t listen to the signs of God the mighty big cat. Blame us!
When we arrive in Peru, the country directly shows us its best side: we get to Juliaca, probably the largest shithole of whole South America.
We are leaving the familiar, the “almost-like-Europe” and go to Bolivia, where – after almost ten months of Uruguay, Argentina and Chile – things are a bit different.
After a longer break in Salta, we finally continue: we start riding to the Atacama Desert. To get there, there are exactly two passes: One over only asphalt which is a bit longer, and one that leads over a gravel road.
